Walmart Express Zibatá – A familiar store to an American visitor
In the US, Walmart is everywhere. While visiting Zibatá for the first time in March 2025, I stopped into Walmart Express Zibatá with my sisters to get food for the Airbnb. It was interesting to see that it was a small neighborhood-style grocery store, whereas all US Walmarts are massive buildings. Even those with the grocery store also have the other departments. It was also super interesting to see a bakery with fresh bread—something you will never see in the US. There are a lot of familiar American brands, but also other options suited to the Mexican market. The store was clean and well-organized.
Compared to the US, prices were similar, some higher, some lower, but I think that is because the displayed price in Mexico has sales tax included already. In my subsequent trips to Mexico since March, I have made the local Walmart Express my first stop to grab necessities when I arrive in town. The mountain view from the parking lot and sunsets are absolutely beautiful!
